By Walt Hickey Meta Ireland’s Data Protection Commission imposed a pair of fines on Facebook parent company Meta, fines totaling €390 million ($414 million). The company has said it will appeal, and a third decision regarding the WhatsApp messaging app is believed to be coming later in the month. Furthermore, the company has been banned from forcing users in the European Union to agree to personalized ads. Meta is subjected to the Irish regulation because that’s where its regional headquarters are, and it’s the latest in a string of four other fines since 2021 that have cost the company over €900 million.
