Miami Beach is under siege by a legion of revelers, and the city’s plan to deal with the crowds is under pressure. A $1.1 million security plan may end up costing the city $1.5 million with new measures proposed this week, namely more officers patrolling the beach to seize booze and drugs. With even more reinforcements from other departments, there will be 371 officers working this weekend, among the busiest of the season. Still, it’s not all the fault of the visitors: of
Walt, bit of a mistake in the "Diesel" bus article. You stated "For every 1,000 electric buses on the road, about 500 barrels of diesel are displaced daily, compared to just 15 barrels displaced for every personal electric vehicle." I was thinking that was not a very good statistic in arguing for bus electrification as 15 barrels per private vehicle was a very good figure. That would mean buses would need to average at least 30 passengers per trip to compete. So I went to the original article and the actual figures are as follows: "For every 1,000 electric buses on the road, 500 barrels of diesel are displaced each day, BloombergNEF estimates. By comparison, 1,000 battery electric vehicles remove just 15 barrels of oil demand."
