Those two stories about Rio Verde and the Menhaden both in my view highlight what a shortsighted, borderline stupid species we are. We continue to do things with no thoughts of the consequences of our actions, over and over--especially when it comes to this planet's living and natural resources--and then we profess shock/dismay when those resources no longer exist, or become so rare that they are impossible to find.
It would be nice if we could make all the red food coloring we needed from bugs, but even the farming techniques aren't in large enough quantity to provide all we need.
