By Walt Hickey Welcome to the Numlock Sunday edition. This week, I spoke to Ryan Broderick of the utterly delightful Garbage Day internet culture newsletter. Ryan’s not only responsible for one of the most reliably entertaining things I read on the internet, but earlier this year he branched out and with partner Adam Bumas launched Garbage Intelligence.
A brilliant read from two of my favorite newsletter authors. I read almost the entire thing aloud to my husband and we had a two hour discussion as we worked through points and related it to our personal experiences. AMAZING things here. I'm glad to be a supporter of all of these efforts. One thing we discussed about Patreon is that supporting creators on it feels authentic - it's a one:one or many:one relationship (sometimes a many:small group) with a specific point or theme or concept, and not equivalent to subscribing to Netflix and hoping you're a target demographic.
